The story-line so far this season in New York has been will seven time all-star Carmelo Anthony leave New York when his contract ends in. The Knicks are in the mists of one an abysmal season with a record of 21-39 and currently sitting 11 in the eastern conference and a slim chance of making the playoffs.
Despite the Knicks losing record and struggles, Carmelo has been doing his part to keep the Knicks relevant this season. He currently ranks second in scoring after three-time scoring champion Kevin Durant. So the question at hand is should he leave?
My answer to that is yes. When it’s all said and done players are mostly judged by their championships. Bill Russell, Micheal Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon are just some of the players considered some of the greatest players to play basketball and are always some of the first names you here when lists are made for top 10 players, more importantly all of these players have multiple championships.
Players like Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, John Stockton, Reggie Miller and New York Knick great Patrick Ewing are often over-looked when the discussion for all-time greats come about. Now Don’t get me wrong they’re all respected and often in the conversation, however the argument of how many titles have they won comes up too often and so they automatically get dismissed from the conversation.
If Carmelo Anthony wishes to end up on the “Mt.Rushmore” of NBA players he needs to win multiple titles and time is running out. After all LeBron, Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh are some who have left teams in search of rings.
