One step closer

Arsenal are one step closer to claiming a major trophy for the club in nine years, Wenger’s men last title was the F.A Cup in 2005.

The gunners got past the defending champions Wigan Athletic 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out Saturday afternoon at Wembley stadium. Wigan went ahead 1-0 from the penalty spot late in the second half. Jordi Gomez tucked away a spot kick in the 63rd minute after Per Mertesacker committed a foul in the box. Per Mertesacker got the equalizers for his side in the 82nd after mounting endless pressure on Wigan’s back line and goalkeeper, Mertesacker re-directed a shot from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both teams didn’t create much in the extra-time periods.

Both Goalkeepers in my opinion were the men of the match. Wigan’s goalkeeper Scott Carson, kept his team in the game with some brilliant saves. Arsenal’s keeper came through for his side in the shoot out, Lukas Fabianski saved the first two penalties setting the stage for arsenal to return to the site where they won their last trophy in 2005.

Arsenal will now face Hull City who are making their first appearance in the FA cup final in the teams history. One of two things can happen when both teams meet next month Arsenal can end their trophy drought or Hull can claim their first FA cup title, either way the cup final should be entertaining.

Slow Pace

TheIndiana Pacers have been on somewhat of a slump lately, dropping games they have no business losing The Pacers dropped a game they needed to keep the heat on Miami for home court advantage in the playoffs.

It seems they’ve fallen of the rails a bit down the home stretch of the season, with today’s loss they’re now two games back in the loss column behind the heat. The pacers will still meet the heat one more time before the season is over, however their next opponent are the struggling bucks, they will need this need this game find get their swagger back.

I think the team best suited to dethrone the heat are the pacers but they have to learn to stop being their own worst enemy first.

Pure Madness

March madness has definitely lived up to its name this year, the tournament has been one of the most unpredictable ones in recent memory.

Kentucky booked their ticket to the national championship game through a last second three point shot from Freshman guard Aaron Harris. While Connecticut had to mount a come-back from a double digit deficit in the first half of their final four match up.

In my bracket of course I had neither team in the championship game and I don’t know too many people outside their fan-base that picked both teams , but to my credit I did choose Kentucky to make the final four.

The Huskies run in the tournament is reminiscent of the Kemba Walker led team that won the championship in 2011. The match-up should be very interesting, as much as I respect Kentucky’s front court I ultimately think this game will be decided by the back court, If Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright out play the Harrison twins I can see the huskies cutting down the nets. I picked Kentucky after the disaster I call my bracket happened and if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this tournament is anyone can win on any given day.

Four – Closure

The gunners started this season on such a great high, but as the season has progressed we’ve seen the same arsenal most have become accustomed to for the past eight seasons.

Wenger’s men have seen their hold at the top of the league slip away over the last two months. Currently Liverpool (74 pts.)leads the league followed by Chelsea (72 pts.) and then Manchester City (70 pts.) who have two games in hand over the two teams above them. Arsenal have yet again found themselves in a battle not for the top spot in the league but fighting to maintain a top four spot in order to qualify for next season’s champions league.

Earlier today arsenal fell to the very team they could not afford to lose points against. Everton blanked arsenal 3-0 today at Goodison Park, narrowing the gunners lead over them to just one point. With the toffees having a game in hand the remaining fixtures will determine who secures the fourth champions league position.

Everton Have Manchester United, Manchester City and Southampton among their remaining fixtures, while Arsenal has the easier schedule. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the prem, every game is unpredictable. Considering what was supposed to be one of Arsenal’s best seasons and one of Wenger’s greatest achievements, Arsenal has again falling into the same scenario we’ve seen. Fans again are potentially looking at a trophy-less season (providing the team doesn’t beat Wigan Athletic in the FA cup final) and another fourth place finish.

YNWA (You’ll Never Walk Alone)

For the first time since December the reds are at the top of the league. The last time Liverpool won the league title, the English premier league was referred to as the First Division. With just six games left for Liverpool on the season.

Liverpool ascended to the top of the table with a 4-0 thrashing of the spurs earlier today at Anfield Stadium. This season’s story no doubt has been the scoring exploits of Liverpool’s dynamic duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge affectionately known as S.A.S ( Suarez and Sturridge) to the Anfield faithful. Suarez has scored 29 goals on the season, while his strike partner Sturridge has pumped in 20 goals making first and second on the leagues top goal-scoring charts.

goal scorers

Liverpool’s remaining schedule include West Ham, Manchester City, Norwich City, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and New Castle, although all games are important, the two that stand out are the Man city and Chelsea matches as they’re the only things standing between the reds and their first Premier league title. I Suarez and Sturridge can stay in this goal scoring form there is no reason they can’t hoist the trophy

Are the Bulls good enough?

It seems the Chicago Bulls have the Miami Heats number except when it matters the most in the playoffs. The bulls were led by Joakim Noah and D.J Augustine, Noah poured in 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Augustine contributed with 22 points, leading the bulls to an overtime victory over the heat. Both teams have split their regular season meetings 2-2 this year.

The biggest play of the game happened right at the end of regulation when second year player from Marquette Jimmy Butler, stripped LeBron on his way to the basket for the potential game winner.

In the 2011, the bulls had the number one seed and fell to the heat in the conference finals and last year without Derrick Rose the heat beat the bulls in the 2nd round on their way to a second straight championship, this no doubt has left a sour taste in the mouth of Noah and the bulls.

The one thing the bulls do not lack is energy, and just as last season they’ll be going into the playoffs yet again without their MVP Rose and traded swing-man Luol Deng.

The Bulls will be problematic in the playoffs for either the heat or the pacers but I do not see them knocking either team out. Maybe somewhere in New York Carmelo Anthony watched this game.
