Wizards – Bulls game 3

The wizards came home to DC with a 2-0 lead over the Chicago Bulls, but the wizards weren’t able to extend their lead to 3-0 as they fell to the bulls in their first playoff home game since the 2007-08 season 100-97.

Mike Dunleavy led the bulls with 35 points, shooting 8-10 from the 3-point line and 12-19 from the field. All the first-round playoff matches have been closely contested with the exception of the Miami/Charlotte matchup and some of these games have been quite intense.

Tempers have run high in this series and may cost Washington the chance to go up 3-1 in front of their home crowd. Nene has been suspended for game four of the series on Sunday afternoon, due to his altercation with Jimmy Butler during game three. After a basket by Nene, the two got tangled up before Nene head-butted and grabbed Butler, attempting to throw him down. Nene was subsequently ejected from the game.

Nene is a significant loss for the wizards, who will start Trevor Booker in his spot. This means John Wall, Bradely Beal, Trevor Ariza and the rest of the wizards will need to fill the void that;s going to be left my by Nene’s absence.

How the mighty have fallen

Manchester United has had a sub-par season based on the clubs history. Sir Alex Ferguson led the red devils for more than 26-and-a-half years and is currently the longest serving manager in the history of the club.

Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-2013 season, winning yet another English Premier League title to add to his already impressive haul of trophies.

Ferguson helped appoint his successor at Manchester United. David Moyes was selected to carry on the United Legacy. It was always going to be difficult to fill the shoes of the most successful united manager. The end result Manchester United had their worst season, the club is currently 7th with a chance to climb as high as 5th place with three games remaining.

Disappointed with the teams performance in both domestic play and international tournaments, the club decided to part ways with Moyes, with just four games left in the season.

United haven’t sacked a coach since before they hired Sir Alex 26-years ago. The club is looking to bring in a proven winner to manage the club and hopefully attract world-class players, the only problem with this plan is united will not be competing in the prestigious UEFA Champions league which would have been the main selling point to any potential recruits considering playing at Old Trafford.

Spurs – Mavericks game 1

spurs mavs

Probably the least talked about team in the NBA, but that’s probably just how the San Antonio Spurs like it. The spurs rode the back of their perennial All-star Tim Duncan, who poured in 27 points going 4-5 on his shots in the final quarter to help the spurs overcome a 10 point deficit. The Spurs held Dallas to one field goal in the final seven minutes to rally for a 90-85 win Sunday in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

San Antonio won despite going 3 for 17 on 3-pointers and getting only 23 points from its normally productive bench. Tony Parker scored 21 points, and Manu Ginobili added 17. Kawhi Leonard had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tiago Splitter pulled down 11 rebounds for top-seeded San Antonio, which has won 10 straight against Dallas.

Devin Harris scored 19 points for the Mavericks, who nearly pulled off a huge upset. Dirk Nowitzki, who finished with 11 points, was 2 for 6 from the field in the final quarter. The veteran forward was closely defended by San Antonio center Thiago Splitter.

These two teams face each other again Wednesday night. The Mavericks have proven they can hang with the playoff tested Spurs by the looks of game one. Ultimately i think the spurs will win but better games are to be expected from Nowitzki and that the mavs will adjust after letting game one slip out of their hands.

Wiz – Bulls game 1

wiz bulls

Nene dominated with 24 points, Trevor Ariza scored 18, and the Washington Wizards rallied from 13 down to beat the Chicago Bulls 102-93 in their playoff opener on Sunday night.

John Wall poured in 16 points in his playoff debut. Marcin Gortat contributed to the win with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and the fifth-seeded wizards got the win over the fourth-seeded Chicago Bulls.

The Wizards erased a 13-point deficit to just one in third quarter and trailed by just three points going into the fourth, before going on a 18-6 run in the final six minutes of the game to get their first playoff victory since their last appearance in 2008. The next game is Tuesday night.

The Bulls have everything to lose as they can’t afford to drop their second game at home, while the wizards will go back in to the United Center with confidence and a cushion.

BALE……..D OUT

bale

Spain comes to a stand still when Real Madrid and Barcelona play against each other, every game between the two giants is dubbed the Clasico. The two met in the Copa del Rey final Wednesday, with Madrid edging their archrivals 2-1, thanks to Gareth Bale’s amazing solo goal.

The Welshman, who was signed from Tottenham Hotspur in September 2013, produced a stunning solo strike to give Real their first trophy under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. Much has been made on the amount the Los Blancos paid for Bale’s services.

The first goal of a tense contest at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium arrived on 11 minutes after a rapid Real counter attack.Bale set Angel di Maria racing free and the Argentine composed himself before firing a low shot through goalkeeper Pinto and into the corner of the net.

Barcelona bounced backed in the 68th minute, young defender Marc Bartra chose the perfect time to score a rare goal as he powered a firm header beyond Iker Casillas from Xavi’s corner.

With star strike Cristiano Ronaldo missing due to a hamstring injury, the stage was set for one of the other Madrid stars to step up. In the 85th minute with extra time looming, Bale took matters into his hand. The Welshman produced a magnificent solo run, out-running Bartra on his way to giving his side the lead just before the end of regulation.

Bale has yet to live up to the money spent on his transfer fee, but with more performances like that, those echoes of money ill spent may disappear.

You’ll Never walk Alone 2

Liverpool fc

Liverpool Football club have been relentless this season in the English premier league. They defeated Manchester City earlier today 3-2 at Anfield, in what coincided with the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. Liverpool have a chance to win the clubs first ever league title if they can win out the rest of the season.

With the potent attack combinations of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling, Liverpool were able to see off Man city with goals from Sterling, Martin skrtle and Coutinho. Liverpool opened the scoring just six minutes into the game and doubled their lead at the 25th minute of the game.

A 2-0 lead is the most dangerous score line in a soccer game, and Man City proved that theory by storming back in the second half with goals from Spanish mid-fielder David Silva and an own goal from Liverpool left back Glenn Johnson. The game seemed to be heading for a stale mate until the clever Brazilian Coutinho wrapped his magical right foot around the ball and bent it into the bottom right corner beating the outstretched arm of Joe Hart.

With the win Liverpool are in the drivers seat and control their own destiny in the title race. Chelsea are keeping the heat on the reds as they’re only two points behind the leaders and scheduled to meet each other in what could prove to be a title deciding game. This by far has been an entertaining season, at this point I can’t bet against Liverpool to win its first EPL title in the clubs illustrious history.

Perfect Timing

Paers

With just one game left in this years NBA regular season schedule, the Pacers are showing that they are still one of the favorites to unseat the current eastern conference and NBA champions the Miami Heat.

The pacers defeated the Oklahoma City thunder in a game that came down to the wire. Indiana won the game 102-97, maintaining their advantage over the Miami Heat. The pacers own the tie-breaker over the heat, its important the pacers secure home court advantage over Miami. If last years playoffs is any indication of what the future holds for the pacers then it’s very important they get the home court advantage.

The playoffs are in six days and by defeating the thunder who also are serious contenders in the western conference, Indiana seems to be back on track and playing the good and competitive basketball they were playing in the first half of the season. I think this is Miami’s last year at the summit of the east and the NBA, and although the pacers have talent and the perfect blend of youth and experience I don’t see them knocking the LeBron led heat of their throne. The playoffs will be interesting this year and I absolutely cannot wait for it to begin.

One step closer

Arsenal are one step closer to claiming a major trophy for the club in nine years, Wenger’s men last title was the F.A Cup in 2005.

The gunners got past the defending champions Wigan Athletic 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out Saturday afternoon at Wembley stadium. Wigan went ahead 1-0 from the penalty spot late in the second half. Jordi Gomez tucked away a spot kick in the 63rd minute after Per Mertesacker committed a foul in the box. Per Mertesacker got the equalizers for his side in the 82nd after mounting endless pressure on Wigan’s back line and goalkeeper, Mertesacker re-directed a shot from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both teams didn’t create much in the extra-time periods.

Both Goalkeepers in my opinion were the men of the match. Wigan’s goalkeeper Scott Carson, kept his team in the game with some brilliant saves. Arsenal’s keeper came through for his side in the shoot out, Lukas Fabianski saved the first two penalties setting the stage for arsenal to return to the site where they won their last trophy in 2005.

Arsenal will now face Hull City who are making their first appearance in the FA cup final in the teams history. One of two things can happen when both teams meet next month Arsenal can end their trophy drought or Hull can claim their first FA cup title, either way the cup final should be entertaining.
